Should I shave for my birth?

Are you worried about being naked in front of everyone? Trust me, we’ve all been there. The good news is that birth workers think that all women are incredibly beautiful as they are! That means you! Your body is doing so many amazing things, do you think we have time to think about what your labia looks like or if you shaved or not?? Absolutely not. We are too focused on how great you are doing at giving birth!

As birth workers, we know that nudity is a normal and healthy part of birth. It is much preferred that you are naked so that you are ready for that immediated skin-to-skin connection with your baby as soon as they are here. We want to do everything we can to get that oxytocin flowing, breastmilk flowing, breastfeeding thriving and help you to feel good.

What about the hair on my labia? Should I do something about it?

  • Only if you want to! Flaunt your womanly body with confidence knowing that your labia is made to have hair on it! Pubic hair actually stores your healthy bacteria, keeps bad bacteria out and ensures that your baby will have a great microbiome and build a healthy gut when they come though your vaginal canal. This microbiome foundation is INCREDIBLY helpful in preventing your baby from having allergies or gut issues down the line! Your pubic hair is there for a reason and helps keep your vaginal flora healthy and flourishing.

  • Sugaring is another great option if you want that hair GONE before your birth. Good for you! Do what makes you feel good. You can remove all hair or stick to the bikini line as well. The great news is that sugaring lasts for 4-6 weeks at a time which means that you can easily get sugared at 40 weeks and still feel light and hair-free by the time your labor naturally starts. No more razor burn!
